The SMF Hard Metal Factory was built with specialist engineering solutions to address the critical infrastructure demands of micron-precision carbide tooling and milling operations — including floor vibration control, moisture management and dust extraction.

Project Challenges
Keeping floor vibration below 1 m/s² for micron-precision metal-working operations.
Floor vibration in the facility — where carbide tooling and precision milling are carried out — had to stay below 1 m/s². Dust and moisture generated by sintered metal powders also needed to be addressed in the building envelope design, and thermal bridges had to be eliminated throughout.
Our Solutions
A 250 mm screed slab was laid on a double-layer vibration isolation mat; a sandwich panel system eliminating thermal bridges was selected for the envelope. HEPA-filtered negative-pressure air extraction was integrated into the mechanical services. Six months of monitoring confirmed vibration levels 40% below specification.
